NIWA Weather / Website design & Development
The Objective
The NIWA Weather website was outdated and in need of a design refresh. NIWA works closely with the Department of Conservation (DOC), and as part of their collaboration were looking to design and develop a new section of the website, that provided weather forecast information for New Zealand's National Parks and Recreation areas. The website needed user-friendly map interaction and intuitive search. It also needed to present different and complex weather data in a simple, easy-to-understand way.
The Solution
Collaborating with the NIWA scientists and developers, the Hum team worked through the full website user experience and user journeys. They demonstrated the design concepts in our design prototype tool and consulted throughout the build process. The designs included all aspects of the weather and forecast information, included designing weather and hazard icons and creating a full library of design assets for the NIWA developers to pull from. The result is a well thought through, well designed, easy to navigate website with seamless transition from desktop to mobile. Check out the Tongariro Crossing website page as an example.
